The UNIQ Chemistry course is an exciting opportunity for you to experience what degree level chemistry is like, building on A-level topics and helping you decide whether it is the degree subject for you. You will have introductory lectures on various themes, as well as labs and tutorials and an amazing opportunity to use the university NMR and IR spectrometers.
Over the week, lectures in the mornings will cover a range of subjects, from crystal structure, chirality and spin to hydrogen fuel cells and the chemistry of oxygen (but don’t worry – you don’t need to have come across these concepts before!).
In the afternoons, practical sessions will take place in the undergraduate teaching laboratories, introducing new techniques and developing your practical skills. In addition to this, tutorials will be given covering physical chemistry, inorganic chemistry and organic chemistry. These tutorials are designed to give you a valuable insight into the chemistry tutorial system which is unique to the Oxford course.
This jam-packed week is perfect for anyone considering studying chemistry at university and is a great way for you to see how the course is taught at an undergraduate level in Oxford. Through participating in labs, lectures and tutorials, you will get an idea of the broad scope of the Oxford course, as well as learning new skills and techniques which you can apply to your A-level studies.
